Chloé Comme Parris to show "Beautiful Badass" for autumn/winter 2012 collection during World MasterCard Fashion Week
March 9th, 2012 — Toronto ON — Chloé Comme Parris today announced the launch of its autumn/winter 2012 collection during Toronto's World MasterCard Fashion Week at David Pecaut Square on Tuesday, March 13 at 5 p.m. in the Runway Room. This marks the fourth season the Toronto-based designers, Chloé and Parris Gordon, will show their clothing and jewellery collections during Fashion Week in Toronto.
This season, the sibling duo's inspiration stemmed from fantastical Russian costume designer and fashion illustrator, Erté, and drew further influence from exploration of the chic, effortless silhouettes of the 1920s. The clothing and jewellery were then contrasted with the sharp edge of punk and piercing cultures. The combination of hard details and soft materials give the delicate silhouette a standout edge, facilitating the overall image for A/W 2012 summed up by the phrase "Beautiful Badass."
"We take inspiration from historical references and focus on translating them into modern, wearable, new contexts," said designer Chloé Gordon. "After stumbling upon Etré's designs we became fascinated with the relaxed silhouette of the 1920s. For the upcoming collections, our goal was to build on this inspiration and use contrasting materials to create visually stimulating pieces."
"This season our aim was to explore the dichotomy between delicate femininity and a hard, edgier aesthetic," said designer Parris Gordon. "The resulting looks strike a balance between the two and define who we see as the 'Chloé Comme Parris' girl."
The detail and styling used by Chloé Comme Parris for these collections creates a harmony between contrasting styles; modest and feminine meets attitude and angst. Materials featured in the collection include leather, denim, silk, coyote fur, silver, jasper and resin. Techniques include hand-painted prints and pleating, while a focus on piercing culture and body customization lends to the custom hardware displayed in the beading, studding, chain, buttons, cufflinks and studs.
Chloé Comme Parris designs are available online and at select retailers.
