World MasterCard Fashion Week Fall 2012

ADRIAN WU: Studio (2:00 PM)

- ADRIAN WU is best known for his layering in fabric and focus on modernizing the bodice, fabrics and silhouettes between the ages of the early 18th century (Siècle des Lumières Age of Enlightenment) to the early 20th century. This season, Wu entails to shine a light on a specific political world issue and reminds audiences that fashion, for him, is a medium for self expression. His fall/winter 2012 collection consists of flannelet, a fabric used most often in sleepwear. Wu continues to combine fabrics in unconventional ways including excessive draping by a form of pin tucking he invented himself.

- Laura Siegel shows the fall 2012 collection Dreams Resurrected, which emerged from the quest to create new dreams after mourning the loss of the old. Dreams’ powerful imagery impacts the inner and outer worlds. The integration of mind, body and soul translates into apparel that employs ancient craftsmanship in fresh and novel textures and shapes.

CHLOÉ COMME PARRIS: Runway (5:00 PM)

- This season, the sibling duo’s inspiration stemmed from fantastical Russian costume designer and fashion illustrator, Erté, and drew further influence from exploration of the chic, effortless silhouettes of the 1920s. The clothing and jewellery were then contrasted with the sharp edge of punk and piercing cultures. The detail and styling used by Chloé Comme Parris for these collections creates a harmony between contrasting styles; modest and feminine meets attitude and angst, facilitating the overall image for F/W 2012 summed up by the phrase “Beautiful Badass.”

MERCEDES-BENZ STARTUP PRESENTS: MARTIN LIM: Runway (6:00 PM)

- Design duo Danielle Martin and Pao Lim (MARTIN LIM) will take to the Runway as the solo show recipients of the Mercedes-Benz Start Up 2011/2012 season. Martin and Lim are devoted designers who gained invaluable experience while working with internationally renowned designers such as Christian Lacroix and Roland Mouret and have since gone on to win prestigious awards and accolades globally. The work of MARTIN LIM has been noticed by fashion journalists around the world, including London, New York, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Hong Kong and of course in their home: Quebec. Their collections have shown in London, Montreal, New York City and Toronto.

- Now into its third season, MATIS is the attainable collection from renowned designer Lucian Matis, created for a career woman who wants to add trends to her everyday wardrobe without overpowering her sense of style. The line features easy to mix and match pieces, including dresses, tops, jackets and pants; as well as knitwear in sizes ranging from XS to XL. For this coming fall/winter season, the MATIS collection adapts the beauty of brush feathers and pumps them with vivid jewel-tone colours – a transition from his namesake Lucian Matis line of the same season. His delicate lace motifs become rich silks in vibrant shades for the fall and winter months to simulate the rich autumn vibe and festive December celebrations.
