RAD by Rad Hourani to debut #5 collection at World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto

Five Years of Rad Hourani screening will celebrate fifth anniversary of the fashion brand

March 14th, 2012 — Toronto ON — Rad Hourani will showcase his RAD by Rad Hourani #5 collection during Toronto’s World MasterCard Fashion Week on Friday, March 16 at 8 p.m. – his first time showing on a Canadian runway. To open the show, guests will be treated to a screening of Hourani’s film, Five Years of Rad Hourani, to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the eponymous line.

“Having spent a significant part of my youth in Montreal, I am so pleased to finally be sharing my collection here in Canada,” said Hourani. “Travelling has become such an integral part of my life that I now tend to think of home as wherever I am at a certain time. This is reflective in the asexual, aseasonal nature of the clothes I design. They come from no place, no time, no tradition, yet could be home anywhere, any time.”

The unisex collection seamlessly combines luxury and military aesthetics to create timeless and unique designs. Using a new variety of materials, the RAD by Rad Hourani #5 collection is influenced by the styles and silhouettes of his namesake collection, but creates a more casual and versatile feel. With gender agnosticism as the driving conceptual force in Hourani’s designs, his objective is to create clothing that can be worn by anyone at any time. Hourani’s collections generally focus on a monochromatic palette of blacks, touches of pure whites, and intense grays. The incorporation of a muted green into the #5 collection, combined with the prominence of zippers, straps and suspenders, creates a military feel while maintaining a sense of discreet chic and essence of timeless style.

Five Years of Rad Houraniwill screen prior to the runway show. Created by Hourani himself, the film demonstrates his extensive range of talents not only as a designer, but as a photographer, artist, filmmaker, writer, art director and musician. Hourani, however, considers himself to be none of these individually, but a product of them all in one.

In September 2012, having already shown various collections in Paris and New York, Hourani was invited by Anna Wintour and Franca Sozzanito present Rad Hourani #6 in Milan in honour of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Vogue Fashion Fundat Vogue Italy Talents exhibition.

Runway images will be available following the show.

About Rad Hourani:
Since launching his label in 2007 in Paris, Rad Hourani has been reinventing fashion by foregoing the conventional and following his own vision to create unisex pieces that are changing women’s and men’s wardrobes throughout the globe. Having spent his childhood in Jordan, Hourani moved to Montreal (where his clothing is made today) with his family at the age of 16. Self-taught and driven by a passion for modernity, Hourani creates luxurious yet affordable clothing free of conventional restrictions. Epitomizing his values for freedom and unisex elegance, he includes no gender, season or rules in his collections. As a result, he has created a system where his collections are identified not by seasons, but by their sequential numbers.
