Live Broadcast Debut, April 24-28
April 3rd, 2012 — Toronto ON — FAT is pleased to present the live debut screening of Broadcast People, a fusion of Social Media and photography, conceptualised by Toronto photographer Gwen Brydson.
MEDIA PARTICIPATION - Media are invited to participate in the project by conducting an interview live on air. The artist will be present for live interviews. We invite you to your choice of Tuesday, April 24, Thursday, April 26, and Friday, April 27, from when doors open at 7PM. To book an interview, return email to media@broadcastpeople.net and indicate a preferred time slot. Please RSVP ahead of time, live interviews are limited.
A narration of the impending, the project explores an individuals future defined by the choice to go public or remain private.
Using free online broadcasting platforms, social media and photography, guests of FAT, media, journalists, photojournalists and members of the public are invited to interact and participate by dancing, singing, gesturing, reporting live or anything else they can think of. With cameras triggered by a single red button, all participants will be able to broadcast themselves, live and unedited over Twitter, Facebook, Picasa, Flickr, Ustream and the Broadcast People website, www.broadcastpeople.net

GENERAL INFO - Gwen Brydson's work is instantly identified by her vivid and highly conceptual style. Versatile with both still and motion imagery, she works as a photojournalist and commercial photographer. She creates imagery based on pop culture, media, high-end commercial advertising and the absurd. www.gbrydson.com
GENERAL INFO - Broadcast People is created by Gwen Brydson, an award winning Toronto photographer with work that spans art, editorial and commercial photography. broadcast people is her first large scale project involving social media as an integral element. A fusion of social media and photography, the live interactive installation invites members of the public to participate by entering the "Public Domain" and triggering cameras by pushing a single red button.
As the project is in progress, photos and videos of participants are uploaded simultaneously as a grid of security cameras act as a backdrop. The project's purpose is to record the movements of each interaction. Based on the popular Facebook question: "Is your profile public or private?", the answer produced is an expression of modern day intimacy and the ever present want for connection.
GENERAL INFO - |FAT| is the first festival of its kind to present fashion through a broad range of disciplines - design, film, photography, arts and performance. The festival puts Canada on the fashion world stage as an innovative force to be reckoned with. Now in its 7th year |FAT| has presented over 1,000 artists since it first launched in 2005.
